I hiked past this scene on one of the prettiest summer days of 2022 and I could not stop looking at it, so this stretch took way longer than anticipated.

It sits right next to one of my favourite hiking trails in this amazingly beautiful area, which is just over an hour of driving away from where we live. If you've been [following me on Instagram](https://www.instagram.com/elcriz) for the last 4-6 years, you know I have a thing for these structures.

In terms of painting, I'm still searching for my favourite type of style. I tend to lean more towards painting land- and naturescapes in a impressionist way rather than (photo)realistic. Scenes I've come across during many hikes and travels in the past. This painting is therefore still what I consider a 'study' of light and detail. But no matter what you think of it, it really gives me loads of joy and satisfaction to spend an evening painting, no matter the outcome.

[Common ragwort](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jacobaea_vulgaris) (_Jacobaea vulgaris_) is a typical summer wildflower throughout Europe. It's beautiful bright yellow flowers are an important source of nectar for pollinators like bees and butterflies, but it's highly poisonous and an invasive species in some parts of the world. I came across this scene last summer and really liked the faded yellow of the ragwort against the backdrop of a purplish pink sky. Just minutes later, the magic was gone.
